Cell Symposium: Big Questions in Neuroscience (SFN 2017)

Call for Papers:

The Neuron SFN satellite Cell Symposium brings together leading researchers in the field to discuss the big questions in neuroscience today.

This year’s “Big Questions” span from how to understand the complexity of the human brain to the cellular features of neurons and non-neural cells and will feature visionary scientists with an eye to the future of the field.

The meeting will bring together speakers and the audience in a dynamic conversation with a mixture of presentations and discussions on the latest advances in neuroscience.

Topics of interest:

  • Human Neuroscience: How can we understand the unique features of the human brain, from genetics to networks?
  • Coordinated Cognition: How does the brain connect perception, attention, and goal-directed thought?
  • The Brain in Balance: How does the brain maintain stability in the face of fluctuating conditions?
  • Neuronal Cell Biology: How do the cellular features of neurons influence their function?
  • Beyond the Neuron: How do cells and systems beyond neurons contribute to the nervous system?

Paper Submission

Submit Abstract

Abstract submission deadline: August 18, 2017

Abstracts received before the abstract deadline will be considered for poster presentations and/or a limited number of oral presentations. If your abstract is accepted, it will be included in our online abstract booklet that will be distributed to all conference participants.

Any abstracts submitted after the deadline will be eligible for poster presentations only. Please also note that we can only allow one abstract per presenting author. Abstracts will not be published and authors also reserve the right to publish their work elsewhere.

All abstracts will be reviewed by the organizers to ensure that the topic of the submission is consistent with the scope of the topics covered at the symposium. A small number of abstracts will be selected for short talks by the organizing committee.

Once the abstracts is accepted, at least one of the authors must register for and present at the conference.

A condition of submission is that, if accepted, the poster and/or talk will be presented at the conference by one of the authors.

Successfully submitted abstracts will be acknowledged with an electronic receipt including an abstract reference number, which should be quoted in all correspondence.

If you do not receive acknowledgement for your abstract submission or you wish to make any essential revisions to an abstract already submitted, please do not resubmit your abstract, as this may lead to duplication. Please contact the Conference Content Executive (Please do not email credit card information under any circumstances) with details of any revisions or queries. Please quote your reference number if you have one.

Family Support Awards

Elsevier Family Support Awards

We are excited to announce that Elsevier has provided funds to help supplement the costs related to childcare responsibilities for early-career researchers attending our 2017 Cell Symposia. We understand that, in both academia and industry, the years following the completion of a doctoral degree are critical for exposure, recognition, and networking in order to secure or maintain a position. For many scientists, these years also coincide with starting a family, making it difficult to achieve a work-life balance and embrace one’s career objectives. Up to $500 per award will be granted to students, postdocs, and/or young investigators (within your first 5 years). Delegates with accepted abstracts are eligible for this award (awarded on a first come first serve basis).

Please contact: m.morley@elsevier.com to receive an application form.
