Eighth International Conference on the Constructed Environment
24 - 25 May 2018, Detroit, USA
Call for Papers:
Founded in 2010, the International Conference on the Constructed Environment is held annually in different locations, selected for the way each raises specific kinds of questions about the nature of architecture, landscape and human habitation. The conference is a cross-disciplinary forum which brings together researchers, teachers and practitioners to discuss the past character and future shape of the built environment.
The resulting conversations weave between the theoretical and the empirical, research and application, market pragmatics and social idealism. In professional and disciplinary terms, the conference traverses a broad sweep to construct a trans-disciplinary dialogue which encompasses the perspectives and practices of: architecture, anthropology, business, design, economics, education, engineering, environmental design, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, sociology, town and regional planning, and transportation.
The International Conference on the Constructed Environment is built upon four key features: Internationalism, Interdisciplinarity, Inclusiveness, and Interaction. Conference delegates include leaders in the field as well as emerging scholars, who travel to the conference from all corners of the globe and represent a broad range of disciplines and perspectives. A variety of presentation options and session types offer delegates multiple opportunities to engage, to discuss key issues in the field, and to build relationships with scholars from other cultures and disciplines.

The Constructed Environment Research Network enables members to publish through two media. First, community members can enter a world of journal publication unlike the traditional academic publishing forums—a result of the responsive, non-hierarchical, and constructive nature of the peer review process. The International Journal of the Constructed Environment provides a framework for double-blind peer review, enabling authors to publish into an academic journal of the highest standard. The second publication medium is through the The Constructed Environment Book Imprint, publishing cutting edge books in print and electronic formats.
